Old Spring Mill at Kingsville, Ohio.
Built in 1812 by Daniel Butts.
This view is taken from the South Ridge Road looking toward the back and south side of the mill.
The mill was a flour and grist mill, the first in the Township.  The residence known as the "mill house"
is at right hidden by trees.  The mill was torn down in the mid 1970's but the foundation walls can still be seen.
The original mill was operated by a large pond across the street that was  fed by a natural spring.
The mill race ran under the street and fell to an overshot wheel that turned the mill stones inside.
Property was owned by Daniel Butts until purchased by Samuel Sherman around 1850.  From that time
it was known as "Sherman's Mill".  It was operated by George Rhen while owned by Sherman.  Rhen purchased
the mill in 1871 and Sherman bought it back again by 1880.  During this time, the two men refitted the mill to
operate by steam power.  New, state of the art rollers were installed to take the place of the grinding stones.
The mill was well known for its extra fine "Gold Crown" flour.
